Communication is a basic human need. As a certified clinician since 2005, I have provided speech-language assessment and therapy services at a number of acute care and outpatient rehabilitation clinics to both adults and children of all ages. Over the course of my career I have successfully treated a variety of speech, language, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders. I specialize in early intervention, pediatric speech-sound disorders (including childhood apraxia of speech, articulation/phonological disorders), and language disorders. I firmly believe that partnering with clients, parents and caregivers throughout the therapy process to address what matters to them is the key to success. I am passionate about empowering and educating patients and caregivers to advocate for themselves.

My personal goals include adopting best practices based on current research to benefit my clients, and being a life long learner. I have a special interest in neurological development, the importance of play in early childhood, and coherent narrative skills for effective communication. My education in two graduate degree programs, that is, a Masters in Speech-Language Pathology and Masters in Human Development and Family Studies, as well as, an undergraduate in Child Development, has given me a deep understanding of neuro-typical development and speech-language disorders across the life span.

I am multilingual and speak fluent English, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu. When I am not with my patients, I am an active member of the public school PTA, and I enjoy long walks, cooking, gardening, and reading.

Communication Disorders Treated
Articulation and Phonological Disorders - Children acquire speech-sounds at different ages but sometimes errors persist past the age-range of sound acquisition impacting intelligibility. Articulation disorders are the errors in production of individual speech sounds. Phonological disorders are the predictable, rule-based errors (e.g., fronting, stopping, and final consonant deletion) that affect more than one sound.Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) - is a neurological childhood (pediatric) speech sound disorder in which the precision and consistency of movements underlying speech are impaired in the absence of neuromuscular deficits (e.g. abnormal reflexes, abnormal tone) resulting in highly unintelligible speech. CAS is diagnosed and treated by a speech-language pathologist.Early Intervention - is the process of providing services and supports to infants, toddlers, and their families when a child has, or is at risk for, a developmental delay, disability, or health condition that may affect typical development and learning. The goal of speech-language therapy in EI is to lessen the effects of a disability or delay in communication development, cognitive development, and social or emotional development.Fluency Disorder - Stuttering, the most common fluency disorder. It is an interruption in the flow of speaking characterized by repetitions (sounds, syllables, words, phrases), sound prolongations, blocks, interjections, and revisions, which may affect the rate and rhythm of speech. Stuttering may be accompanied by physical tension, negative reactions, secondary behaviors, and avoidance of sounds, words, or speaking situationsExpressive Language and Receptive Language Disorder - Expressive language disorder presents as delayed “talking”, vocabulary acquisition, slow development of sentence structure, and difficulty with narrative skills. Receptive language disorder presents as difficulty with understanding language, questions, commands conversation, etc.Voice Disorder - is an impairment of vocal quality due to its pitch, resonance, or loudness and may be caused by vocal abuse or misuse, or other medical issues. An ENT consult is recommended to determine cause for symptoms.Pragmatic Language Deficits - are social communication deficits that present in various ways and can include impairments in joint attention and social reciprocity as well as challenges using verbal and nonverbal communication behaviors for social interaction.

"Rasneet began working with my son when he was eighteen months old. My son received support and reached so many goals during the time we had therapy. One thing that was invaluable was that Rasneet's focus was on the whole child and family. Having connection and a strong bond with Rasneet helped my son in so many ways. Speech Therapy can seem like a hard task for a young child, but when it is naturally fun it is something the parent and child look forward to." ~ Sophia M.
